The Muskegon Lumberjacks did not have enough answers for Team USA on Saturday night.
The Lumberjacks fell behind early and lost 7-4.
After letting in three first period goals, Muskegon’s Nathan McBrayer put his team on the board off an assist from George Fegaras.
Owen Mehlenbacher opened up the second period just a minute in on an unassisted power-play goal. The tally brought Muskegon to a 3-2 deficit.
Team USA responded five minutes later with Gabe Perreault’s third tally of the night, putting Muskegon down 4-2.
Matvei Gridin brought Muskegon to within a goal on a shot assisted by Ethan Fredericks for a 4-3 score.
The Lumberjacks could not get over the one-goal hump as team USA added two more goals before the end of the second period for a 6-3 lead.
Jake Richard scored Muskegon’s lone goal of the third period on helpers from Mehlenbacher and Ethan Whitcomb.
Team USA added on its last goal of the night on a Will Smith goal to close out scoring.
Raythan Robbins took the loss in net for Muskegon, stopping 21 shots. Muskegon outshot Team USA, 38-27 on the night.
The Lumberjacks have now lost four in a row and will look to bounce back next weekend in Cedar Rapids.
The losing skid for Muskegon places it in seventh place with 32 points behind first-place Chicago.
