We a getting reports that a large emergency service presence can be seen in the Priestpopple area of Hexham tonight – including ambulance crews.
We understand a cordon has been set up in Hexham this evening as police deal with an incident in the town centre.

A police incident is ongoing in Priestpopple, Hexham.
The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed.

A historic £4.2bn devolution deal signed on Friday is “bigger, better, and bolder” than failed past attempts to unite the region, Michael Gove has pledged.
The Tory levelling up secretary joined council leaders on the banks of the Tyne on Friday to put pen to paper on the major agreement, which is set to bring extra powers and funding to the North East as well as a new elected mayor. In a ceremony at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, on the Gateshead Quayside, Mr Gove called the deal an “investment of hope and trust in the region and its people”.

Traffic is queueing on the approaches at Benton Park Road double roundabouts.

Delays on A167(M) Central Motorway Southbound from B1318 Great North Road to A186 City Road (Swanhouse Roundabout). Travel time is nine minutes.
Queueing traffic on A1 Northbound between A697 (Longhorsley Turn Off, Low Espley ) and The Longhorsley Turn Off (Longhorsley). In the roadworks area.
A man has tragically died after a major car crash this morning (January 27).
Police said they were dealing with an incident on the A167 at Newton Park services, Darlington, at around 6am, with the road closed in both directions and the ambulance service also in attendance.
But this afternoon, Durham Constabulary confirmed that a man in his thirties has died, as work continues to find out exactly what happened. The man’s next of kin have been informed.

Heavy traffic on A167 Newcastle Road Southbound around A690 Neville's Cross Bank. Travel time is five minutes.
Police are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was hit by a bus in Sunderland, leaving him in a critical condition.
The man, aged 68, was struck by the bus on John Street at around 2pm on Wednesday (January 25). Emergency services responded and treated him at the scene before he was taken to hospital – where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

A primary school put their pupils under lockdown after motorcyclists in balaclavas were spotted nearby.
At home time on Thursday, Westoe Crown Primary School in South Shields was made aware of a group of people on motorcycles. They were reportedly wearing balaclavas, had what appeared to be weapons and were travelling along nearby roads at speed.

We're seeing delays on the A1, southbound, from Metrocentre to Angel of the North.

Traffic is very slow on Gateshead Road in both directions at The Travellers Rest pub.
Newcastle United could clinch a deal for Anthony Gordon over the weekend with sources close to the deal claiming an agreement is getting closer.
The Magpies were not prepared to pay £60million for his services but a structured deal close to £45million with incentives has been discussed. The appointment of Sean Dyche as manager is also set to speed up the process with the player still determined to leave the club.
